The Main Tourism Office in Madeira has gone Wow! with the installation of an interactive water floor picturing images and info about the famous madeiran levadas.Wow! also delivered a multimedia kiosk where users can browse through a Madeira interactive guide available in four languages.

Wow!Systems was part of the Portuguese Global Entrepreneurship Week organized in Madeira by IDERAM and CEIM. Wow! featured as an innovative company on a Entrepreneurship TV show (watch the video - portuguese only) and our CEO made a presentation today on Madeira Tecnopolo regarding the company and the support given by local and international entrepreneurship authorities.

Wow!Systems partnered with world-renowned award-winner interior designer Nini Andrade Silva, to create a very special hotel reception area for the Sleepotel Event (part of the European Hotel Design Awards event). Nini came up with a Planet Krypton theme turning the stand into a magical cave. Wow!Systems developed and installed a 4×3m interactive water floor, plus a multitouch check-in desk and an water projection overlay. The stand was the major attraction of the event. Watch the video.

Wow!Systems was chosen to install an interactive floor for Madeira Government to show all the recent construction works done in the island. The 5.5×2.15m floor can be seen in FIC2009 (Funchal) and was opened by Madeira’s Government President himself who congratulated the team for such a creative solution. iTunes AppStore has seen the arrival of three new iPhone apps made by Wow!Systems: Clown Detect, iBday and Parabéns.

Clown Detect makes use of the face-tracking ability to add clown noses, hair, etc. to the faces of people pictured in photos taken by the iPhone camera.

iBday and Parabéns lets the users celebrate their birthday with a virtual birthday cake with an realistic animated candle that can be blown while listening to a birthday music theme.

Wow!Systems developed another iPhone app for NCE.

007 Mic allows you to record conversations in a disguised and 007 way. The app has a manual (tap to record) and an automatic mode (starts to record when voice is detected). The recordings are saved and logged and users can set a password to access them.

Wow!Systems R&D division has been working hard and has just got two papers accepted for the well-known Interact’09 Conference that will be held this year in Uppsala, Sweden. This year conference focus on Research and Practice and addresses the issue of continuity between theory and practice in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research.

The papers - “Sim Company - an Educational Game created through a Human-Work Interaction Design Approach” and “Interactivity for Museums: Designing and Comparing Sensor-based Installations” - were co-written by Wow! engineers Ana Campos and Magno Sousa and by Prof. Pedro Campos and Eng. André Dória both from University of Madeira.

Wow!Systems has developed for Nuno Caravalho Entertainment another two applications for the iPhone. The first is Eye Exam and allows users to check their near and far vision with a simple test by just typing the letters previously shown. The second is Baby Monitor and allows parents to record their voices to calm down their baby. The iPhone is left next to the baby while he is sleeping and if he awakes and cries the app will automatically start to play the recorded voice.
